Lower gearcase removal

I've got a 2001 J90. I'm trying to change the water pump but can't seem to get the shift rod to release. With all the bolts out and the linkage slid over , the gearcase will only come out about 3/4" and gets hung up.

Can anyone give me some insight on getting the lower to let loose???
