Low whirring noise as starter disengages

I have a 2002 2 stroke Mercury outboard that has developed a low whirring noise as the starter releases. I've replaced the bendix but the noise remains sometimes worse than others. Starter motor need replaced?

If it does need a starter, anyone have feedback on after market starters?

Take the starter apart.----Little bit of thin grease on the bushings / bearings is likely all it takes.

You're refering to that little bark sound after the starter has disengaged? Three drops of motor oil on the bendix drive will fix it.
