Looking for suggestions on outdrives. First time owning boat.

I bought a 1988 four winns 180 horizon. It has a omc cobra 4.3 in it. The outdrive was taken off from previous owner. Said he took it off because he heard some grinding. My question is can I use an out drive from a 3.0 omc cobra.
 
Ayuh,.... You could, but it'll be the wrong gear ratio,......

Where's the original drive,..?? it can be repaired,......
Otherwise, you need a drive that matches the old drive, or another option is SEI sells a conversion kit to mount an Alpha 1 Merc drive,....
 
I have the original drive. The gear ratio I think it 21.19. I just got the boat Friday. I’m gonna call around to some marinas the next couple days and see about pricing. Before I open up the outdrive and see what all is wrong with it. The prop spins it feels like maybe something bearings might be toast
