Leaded or unleaded gas in 1971should i be using lead additive

1971 searay 165hp straight 6 cylinder.engine serial # 2917912.should i use lead additive.should i have the valve train serviced.just read a post on iboats and a person says he runs lead additive to his 1971 165hp str 6cyl.i need all the help i can get on this one guys.

The problems of unleaded gas did not materialize for the most part and many old style engines are still running decades later on unleaded gas. Lead substitute is availiable at any auto parts store and can be used as added insurance against possible valve damage. Installing hardened valve seats in the cylider head would completely eliminate the situation but most likely you will not need it.

Lead acts as a lubricant. Unleaded engines were made with hardened valve seats and i doubt yours was. I would use an additive.
