ldrive impeller question

Hey guys new to the forum.
Im working on my old 125ldrive.
I got a new impeller and it came with a plastic sleeve that slips into the output of the impeller housing. My old one didnt have that sleeve. Whats it for? does it make sure water output is correct or soemthing? Also does anyone know where I can get the shift linkage (the piece that connects to the lever thingie on the outdrive) the tabs broke off and all web sites show discontinued. Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for responding! I'll post a pic tomorrow when I get after work I really appreciate it. I've worked in cars my whole life. This thing is a different animal.
