Johnson 20 1982 Ticking Noise

Hello,

I bought a Johnson 20 from 1982. It sometimes makes a ticking noise and lets the whole outboard shake, only when giving it throttle. Does anyone know where this is coming from?

When giving more throttle the engine wants to stall. The outboard has a new CDI, sparkplugs and waterpump.

Simple. Get your hand and fingers off that carb. You are opening the carb throttle without advancing the spark. Result will be exactly what you are experiencing. Normal operation is the carb and spark advance are closely synchronized, automatically.

The ticking is normally the VRO engaging.

No VRO on that motor. What fdr said get your hands off of the carb and your motor sounds normal.

Okay then.... What's ticking?

The ticking is lean sneezing caused by opening the carb butterfly.
