Johnson 150 25” Shift rod measurement

My brother has asked me to help him swap a used lower unit on his 1995 Johnson 150(J150EXEOM) . I know in the past I have read on this forum the proper shift rod length, but I have searched for this information and cannot locate it. Can someone post the proper measurement?Also should the shaft be measured from the top of the gear case to the hole in the shaft or to the end of the shaft? Thanks in advance.

Thank You. One more dumb question. The measurement should be taken with lower in neutral?

Yes in neutral. I made a jig for mine using a piece of 3/4" x 3/4" angle metal. I drilled a hole at the exact height then threaded in a 2" long #8 machine screw. That allowed me to thread the rod in and out and gauge to the jig rather than trying to eyeball a tape measure.

Also, if using a measurement... that's to the center of the shift rod hole, not the top or bottom.
