Johnson 130 port temp sensor

Hey guys. I've got a 1995 Johnson 130 TLEOA that has been getting an overheat alarm on the port side. It only happens after a long run and the alarm is constant and derates the engine until the key switch is cycled off. The engine does not seem to actually be overheating and the new part is ridiculously expensive and hard to get. Is there an easy way to check if the sender is faulty? New part is about $300. Thanks for any help.

Have you replaced the water pump impeller ?

Seem to be operating properly

swap sides and see if problem follows..have you inspected them and seat?
