Hey guys! I have a 35 Johnson bought from someone and I think they've been into the adjustments. It will start and idle great as long as the high idle lever is up about 25-50% of the way, but its no tidying high, its idling about right. when I move the lever all the way down, it idles down to nothing. I notice that the roller will be in between the 2 marks on the piece under the flywheel when its idling best. the roller also begins to pull away immediately as I give it throttle. but when I try to move the high idle lever ALL the way down, I see the timing plate rotates WAY clockwise, so the roller is then way to the right of the 2 marks ( if facing the engine from the boat ), almost to the edge of the timing plate.

Does this make sense? does this sound normal or should the roller be at the 2 marks at idle speed with high idle lever all the way down?

thanks!

Try to find a factory service manual for 1982 models which will explain the procedure. The steps need to be followed exactly and in detail.
