" When did Bombadire take over

" When did Bombadire take over OMC. Were there issues with the motors in this time frame?
I am about to purchase a 17 cc with 2001 70hp Johnson.
It checks fine (sea trail, compression etc) but allot of my friends keep warning me about buying omc products in this time frame. I thought all the problems were with the bigger fuel injected models.
Opinions??? "
 
" Most of the engines that OMC

" Most of the engines that OMC had problems with were the Ficht(direct injection) motors. I worked for a Johnson/Evinrude dealer before and after OMC went bankrupt. The other motors were fine, with minimal problems. I would asked the seller for the service records, including any warranty work done on that motor.
Was the lower unit checked for water and/or excessive metal shavings? Was the oil injection system tested for proper oiling, and the warning system tested at the same time? "
