I have a 1997 Mercury 25EL (2 stroke 2 cylinder) and I diagnosed a cylinder misfire on the top cylinder. Through general troubleshooting, I found out that that I am getting intermittent sparking on the top cylinder. I can usually notice a pattern where at the end of a pull on the pull cord I will get a single spark. The bottom cylinder sparks multiple times throughout the pull which I believe to be correct. I switched the coil packs, wires, and plugs while still getting the same results.
When I switched the wires going into the coil packs, the problem moved to the bottom cylinder. Any ideas if this could be the powerpack or the trigger? Or how I can test both parts?
