Intermittent power loss

We have Volvo Penta 454s I/Os. When underway we are having intermittent power loss in the port engine. We have looked at fuel and grounding wires. Help?

Hotwiring for test purposes the + of the coil with a wire from the + of the battery will tell you if the problem is electrical an it is before or after the coil or before the coil. If you try this and the problem disappears, you will have to check the woring between the battery and the ignition coil, and that includes the ignition switch. But if the problem persists then you will have to look at the coil, distributor, ignition leads, spark plugs, speed limiter, automatic choke, and even fuel issues.
