It's been 4 years since my last VP powered boat. Ah fond memories of an AQ140 and those side draft carbs.

I just bought a 1981 Bayliner Explorer 2270 with an AQ120B and 270 drive. It seems to be in good condition. The previous owner had enough confidence in it to go over the Columbia River bar for tuna. The bonus is he giving me an extra 270 drive and AQ125B motor. Nice to have extra parts like, Camshaft, Intake, fuel pump, that are super expensive to buy. The extra drive looks like it was only used in fresh water (columbia river) I guess my question is:

Which has the best carburation? The AQ120 downdraft solex (I believe) or the AQ125, not sure what carb it is. Not crazy about solexes but for now the boat runs great. How much of the parts are interchangeable between the 2 engines?

Only know about the Solex Carbs on my AQ145a and i have had the boat for the last 8 years.I give them a balance with the air mete once a year(i have twins)and they never fail me all through the season.
