Idle adjustment

I have a 88 25 hp Johnson with remote steering and throttle. My idle is too low. What is the correct way to adjust it? I have adjusted a plastic screw on the linkage but that only lasts for about a trip or two. Do I need to adjust the rod that goes to the carb? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
 
You say you have "Remote Throttle"?.... I take that to be a control box and a throttle cable. If so, adjust the adjustable threaded trunion on the cable at the engine so as to increase the throttle.

However, before doing that, check the compression, then check the spark which should (with the s/plugs removed) jump a 7/16" air gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP!... Does it?

Let us know what the compression psi reading is of all numbered cylinders and whether the spark fails the above test or not.
