"In a Jan 9th post on Crusader 454 Engine Noise, both Rick and Stephen suggest that a diesel sounding knock could be "coupler" noise.

I have Borg-Warner gears. How does one diagnose a coupler problem? How hard of a repair is it?

Is coupler noise the type of thing that can be ignored or will it lead to bigger problems down the river, so to speak?

Thanks for your help."

If that is the problem--and it's being caused by a rough idle--then you don't want to allow it continue or the springs in the damper will be destroyed.
