" I have a 1988 Evinrude 120hp

" I have a 1988 Evinrude 120hp. I bought it used and immediately purchased a new powerpack for it.
I took it out for an initial test run on Saturday and it seemed to run great.
The only problem is that it sucked so much fuel, I'm surprised it didn't try to suck out tanks out of other boats I had passed.
I am in the process of checking the 4 carbs now, so far, so good on them.
I did find the two wire Heat sensor was bad. Don't know what that may do concerning the PowerPack operations/timing if anything...
Any Idea's of other things to check?
I know boats/motors are just a big hole in the water that you throw money into, but I'm dealing with a pretty greedy hole...
Thanks in advance! Stan "

" Stan,

Without act

" Stan,

Without actually looking at it, if that engine is running well, and there is no leakage coming out of the tank, lines and carb, I know of no possible issues - Welcome to the world of boats
. You should be looking at somewhere around 8 gallons an hour, mabye 5 at a lower RPM range or a little extra if it's pegged. It's not uncommon for me to head out for the day (3-4 hours actually running) on a merc 115 and burn up 30 gallons while fishing. Is that about what yours would burn?
