Help with gear oil leak Alpha 1 outdrive

I have a 1994 Mariah Talari with 5.0L Mercruiser and Alpha outdrive.

I had gear oil leaking into bilge. Pulled lower unit and it was leaking. My outdrive serial number is OF317539. I replaced oil seal part number 18-0577 (#17 in diagram.


I then pressurized lower unit to 10 lb. and it held pressure until I spun the shaft. Once I stop spinning it holds pressure again.

No other parts show obvious signs of failure. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I believe you mean #15

Was there a deep grove in yoke shaft?

If so you may have to either replace yoke or move seal within carrier about an 1/8 inch to get seal on smooth surface of yoke

+1 on what jack said although I always change the yoke or sleeve it. Bumping the seal doesbt always s resolve the issue
