Talked to the local shop quickly (they were busy). Said be cautious because VP changed and some years are really hard to get parts for. Im looking for a 10k dollar boat for skiing with 6 pass. 18-21ft. This price seems to be in the 96-2000 model years. Would love EFI but may be tough with the price.

Thanks for sharing all your thoughts.

The first part above in bold text is Bull Sh!t. Whoever told you that does not know Volvo Penta.
In the gasoline line, 1996 was approximately the last years of the AQ series drives.
These drives were produced along side of the Gimbal system drives during '94 to the mid 90's.
I can assure you that parts and service are available.

I would steer clear of the OMC (slash) Volvo Penta that were not actually Volvo Penta yet. These would be the Dog Clutch Cobra drives.
When these truly became Volvo Penta, the cone clutch gear selection was used exclusively.

By '94 and later, or any previous drive that is Volvo Penta, you will be OK.
The actual AQ series drives are a better drive, IMO.
