harness compatability

Could a control and harness from an older v4 Evinrude be used to test a 1994 225 ocean pro with a supposed 2000 power head? The red connector seems to match.The motor does not have a vro pump. I bought it for the lower unit for my ocean pro. The seller told me it ran well before he stored it in his shop. I am considering using it complete on another boat if it checks out.

A red plug on a control fits a motor with a red plug.-----Unless they were molested.

Thanks. I pulled my lower in the water at the dock. I was hoping to drop the new motor onto my old proline.It means I can do this rather than pull my old one just to check it out. I would have tried it anyway, but you gave me a little confidence. I couldn't resist getting a complete motor for less than a used lower. You and your family stay well. Barry
