My GI 8.1 started backfiring and spluttering a while back when I gave it a quick run at WOT. I suspected water in the fuel and so changed filters. There was a little water in the filters but not too much. Ever since that day the engine has been using approx 20% more fuel and power has been down about 20% as well. I removed the injectors and had them flow tested and reverse flushed. The shop said they were within 2% and would not be giving me the problem. They suggested that the engine maybe in derate and that the possible cause would be a faulty sensor. Is this likely and which one would you suggest first. I guess a scan tool would be the answer if I wasn't in such a remote area. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. The engine starts and runs fine, it's just using heaps more fuel than normal and it's lost it's bark at WOT. Regards Pete."
