Gen VI 454 valve cover tabs?

Hello,

Does anyone know if the tabs on the inside of the valve covers on a gen 6 454 serve a purpose?

I am the second owner of the boat. The original owner knocked them off to create clearance for a set of roller rockers. I don't know if the tabs are just a result of the casting process, or if they serve a purpose like directing oil back to specific areas.

Typically tabs on the inside of a valve cover are to divert oil back onto the the rocker/valve assemblies.

Back in the day, The LT1 corvette motor had GM EOM cast valve covers with cast U shaped tabs on the inside for just that reason.

most aftermarket covers dont. Most OEM dont. You can buy new ones.............google is your friend
