"a leaking fuel pump diaphram will , leak gas into the crankcase? so the clear hose to the carburetor prevents that right? what is the difference in auto and marine pumps? The clear hose line? a leaking diaphram would just leak into the crankcase but a leak in the pump itself could leak into the bilge?"
