fuel filter micron

I purchased a boat with 6v92TA's. there is a Racor 751000MAX unit for each engine. I have opened all the tanks flushed/scrubbed/polished the fuel and rebuilt the max units. The elements that were in the Max units were 2020-2 (2 micron). There is a 2 micron spin on the engines. I am building a polish unit so seems like 2 micron in the Max units is overskill. I am considering using 2020-10 (10 micron) elements.

I agree.

These engines were intended to have course primary straining to remove debris, sludge and moisture as protection for the pump. The secondary filtration is specified at 10 micron and anything smaller will pass through the injectors and tips without damage.

Filtering to any greater degree might actually cause pump stress and fuel starvation in maximum load operating conditions.
