"Just got an 84 model Mercury
"Just got an 84 model Mercury 90 hp. I was checking it over and found a couple of wires from the stator to be corroded/ insulation rotten. Took the flywheel off by removing the 8 bolts near the center of flywheel. Flywheel came right off, but I forgot to make note of it's position. There are 8 possible positions to put it back on. (8 boltholes) Question. If I position number 1 piston at top dead center, put the flywheel on so that the plastic pointer points to zero on the flywheel marks, will that be correct?"
