exhaust gaskets

I am doing some work on my exhaust manifolds and risers, the gaskets have 3 openings for water flow. why is the 4th one blocked off? Foolish me I have forgotten which one is blocked, I think it's the bottom one but I'm not positive and don't want to have to do this twice. Can someone remind me please?

The gasket construction help to control the flow of water thru the piece it sits on...
There are two 'tricks' to doing the gasket install correctly....1 ) is knowing which gasket goes where and 2) is keep the 'tabs' up.
the number and type of gasket needed is driven by the cooling method implemented on your engines...

MakoMark, I have a 1983 270 Crusader. I"m also doing elbows and risers but could not get them off the manifolds in the boat so I took the manifolds off too. Can you tell me the tourq specs for the Exhaust Manifolds, eblows and risers for this engine?

25 ft*lbs on the risers and elbows...35 Ft*lbs on the manifolds
