Evinrude 225 shift rod adjustment

hi there, having issues with not engaging reverse after putting in new lower unit, goes into first and can get nuetral but no reverse. if i use a screw driver to pressure the linkage at top of shift rod a bit it engages reverse making me think the rod needs leangthening?? i cant find a manual for one cause i know there is an exact measurement it needs to be. any help of a picture of the manual pages that cover this would be awesome.

I’m from aus so normally work in metric, is that 21 inches? What’s the 15/16 bit, sorry if that sounds dumb just not sure what you mean. Also the shaft length is 20’
