I know my model 350's call

I know my model 350's call for a straight 30 w oil. Has anyone run any synthetic 10w 30's or 40's. Any pro's or con's? People I talk to frown upon changing from what the manufactur recommends. Thanks

"At the risk of starting WW III I would like to point out that there is little or no advantage to using synthetic ckankcase oil. Also, if a an engine has been run on straight weight oil, they sometimes develop leaks at the seals if you then change over to a multiviscosity oil.

Most of the increased longevity of engines comes from the advance of additive packages put in by the the manufacturers, which is now up to an API rating of API-SM (it will be noted on the bottle). Other than that, timely oil changes are a tried and true method of good engine health"
