Engine cover vents????

I was looking at a 1985 engine cover for my 1993 115 v4. My 93 doesn't have vents in it but the 85 does. I'm assuming that they're there for a reason. What effect would they have on my motor and what changes if any did evinrude make? Thanks, Preston
 
Your motor is a 93 model, so nearly 20 years old.------Why do you think it needs more vent today.-----------Some of the GT / XP models had extra vents and it was a styling / marketing exercise.
 
I never said i thought I needed more air. My son ran over mine with his 4-wheeler and boogered it up! Just wondering if the vents would lean mine out to much.
 
With the information posted now ---------------I would say if it fits then put it on. The motor will run just fine!!
 
agree....the drawback of a non vented motor cowl is if you have an exhaust leak....motors will run all day with cowl off...we all have come in at one time with the cowl laying in the bottom of the boat after a problem...
