"i have a 1978 25ft sea ray, it has a 1992 454 gen v motor. the old air cover says 7.4mie which is a marine inboard engine. what is the difference between mie, inboard-outboard,sterndrive? thanks.......kc"

Inboard generally defin

"Kev,
Inboard generally defines an installation consisting of an engine, a transmission and a shaft. Inboard/Outboard was an old term meaning the same as what we more commonly call a sterndrive which consists of an engine mounted inboard and connected to a sterndrive leg which is outboard of the boat. That only leaves an outboard which I guess you know is the noisy thing on the back of some boats which gets in the way when you are fishing. There you go - Clear as Mud!"
