Does it need programing to suit engine???

They are all fully programmed from factory.
However CO test, to correct for 'wear and tear' as well as IAC test/adjustments are recommended.

Hard to test when closest dealer is 12 hrs away, and I'm not a tech.

A Johnson/Evinrude dealer should be able to do it, same engine as the J/E 4-stroke!
Note that for the CO test, the engine has to be run loaded in water/test tank w/test prop or dyno.
