Crankshaft RPM Sensor - 2004 Horizon 350 MPI

Had a survey done on a boat with twins. both motors ran fine, one of them intermittenly showed a code for the Crankshaft RPM Sensor at WOT.

Can someone let me know what this sensor does?

It counts the number of revolutions the crankshaft turns and the computer uses the data to time the ignition. Have it fixed as part of the deal with a repair warranty. It may be just a dirty or loose connection.
