can i install a crank driven sea water pump on my omc 120 seems would be a worthey conversion as oposed to takeing apart the gear case to change the impeller any time it may go

To answer the original question..... Yes, but only if the flange of the crankshaft pump will mate and bolt up to the harmonic balancer correctly.
However... there is a problem with this:
The OEM drive located seawater pump pressurizes the system from the pump to the engine. This seawater route is not intended to become a suction route.

Crankshaft seawater pumps use a larger, less restrictive, and collased proof suction hose.

Physics.... the difference between hydro pressure and hydro vacuum.

you have to go in there every 3 years or so to grease the water pump shaft anyways, or else the splines will strip out from lack of lube. might as well throw an impeller in it while you're in there.
