Cover plate on a Raw water pump

I just removed my raw water pump from my 350 MAG MIE. I noticed that there are concentric groves within the back plate, created by the impeller.My question is is this normal wear, if the back plate is reused will these groves possibly create an air issue within the system.( However there was none before the impeller was removed.) If I purchase a new back plate will the impeller recreate the same groves, s that I am in the same place as I am in now. This water pump is a MerCruiser part # 46-862914T10, with out the air fittings. Thanks again in advance. Joe

Ayuh,... Grooving in the wear plates is a Bad thing,.. replace it..

The same "junk" that grooves the wear plate usually does the same for the cover, too.
