I am looking to buy a boat with a 1967 100 hp Evinrude. I was wondering what the compression should be and how reliable is the electric shift.

There is nothing wrong with the design of the electric shift. The compression should be the same cylinder to cylinder.

" I had a 1967 evinrude 40hp electric shift engine. When I bought it the first thing I did was replace the water pump. When doing this I found that the electric shift cable that runs down through the lower unit was almost completely frayed and also had to be replaced at the cost of about 150.00. Other than that it never gave me any trouble shifting , but was a pig on fuel.
good luck Tmon "

I have a 61 ---75h/p that runs good on 90

But a hundred or better is always better makes them easier to start.
Remember those old V4s need a good stout battery to start them. I think they have to turn about 300 Rs to start. But I really like my old 75 though
One important thing is that the compression on each cylinder needs to be within 10% of each other
