I HAVE A 1977 MFG fiberglass trihull 15' fishing boat.
Boat is rated to handle 85hp max
625 lb people max with1225 lb max with engine and gear.
I have a 1982 50hp Mercury 2 stroke with 10 ⅛" x 13p aluminum prop.
With 2 people weighing total of 375lb, top speed is 27 mph. Same top speed with one person at 235 lb. Boat reaches plane.
When people weighing total of 625lb, top speed is 10-12 mph. Does not plane well.
I do not have a tach. It sounds like WOT is the same with either load.
What prop should I use to get better performance? I would be satisfied with loosing a little top speed with lighter load, as long as I can plane and reach 20 mph with heavier load.
3 blade vs 4 blade? What pitch?
