Can't get alpha one into gear

I have a 1988 Searay 268 Sundancer with a 454 merc and an Alpha one drive. Last summer I lost the ability to shift into forward or reverse. After investigating I replaced the shift cable and set it up per spec. With only 5 hours on the shift cable it happened again. I am confident the cable is setup proper. Are there any issues with the "L shaft" (not sure what it is called, trying to describe the shaft that comes from the lower unit to the channel on the gimbal housing). Any help would be appreciated.

called the lower shoe, only if you forgot the SS washer on the lower splined shaft

With that setup be kind to the throttle lever
