busterbrown 78 merc 20 hp no idle runs on high

Hi I have a 1978 mercury 20 hp,i rebuilt carb with fuel pump,float and needle a whole kit with gaskets.put on motor,handle set on start, started right up did not touch any thing, it didn't go to idle it just went into high speed mode. did not come back to idle,i know the throttle has a spring to hold it at idle,looked into carb yup nothing moved,i am at a loss,this is not my first carb,i have rebuilt,before i put on carb i looked at reeds looked ok,do you have any ideas?books don't say anything.thankyou in advance for any help

Look at the throttle assembly make sure nothing is binding. Make sure the carb is installed correctly and the butterfly is completely closed.

I did everything you said in my question,need to know solution,do you think it might a air leak? or?

Was this problem there before you rebuilt the carb?
