A friend said he left the key on in his Cajun boat and a short time later noticed smoke. He pulled the cowling and hit it with a fire extinguisher. Once he got it to the dock thats when he noticed the voltage regulator melt down. Someone told him when he replace it that he should also replace the stator. I've never heard of such. I understand the close proximity could heat up the stator. Unfortunately he cut the yellow wires and pulled it off. Now he called me to try and fix it. I checked the two yellow wires and got .2 ohms. Checking the brown wires in the same plug and got .827 k ohms. The other brown wire plug ohms reading was relatively close to the other. I know the stator should be checked when on the engine to get the voltage readings. Should I crimp new ends on the stator yellow wires and reinstall or tell him to buy a new one?
