BF2A 2HP misfiring any ideas?

Hi Guys,

I've had this 98 outboard for about 10 years and it's always been a good runner. It has developed a misfire over the winter. I thought it must be a dirty carb so I stripped it down and gave it a good clean. I must have missed something though as it's not solve the problem, any ideas?

Try a new spark plug. NGK of course. I have the same wee motor as a kicker. As much as I neglect her she runs like a race horse. It may be more than that but start there and post your findings.

Thanks Dean. Fitted a new NGK spark plug a couple of days ago but no joy there unfortunately.

The float is working well and fuel is definitely getting into the bowl ok and the injector is clear as shown on vid below. Have removed the pilot screw and checked with a small piece of electrical wire that the bottom air whole is clear (choke side) and the 3 tiny wholes in the carb engine side (the ones 52 seconds in)

Did you remove part #25....a black plastic jet up inside the carburetor? Be sure to clean that passage good.

You said that it is getting plenty of fuel....make sure that the vent on the tank is clear and make sure that the small fuel filter that is in the tank nipple (where the fuel line connects) is clear.

A couple of other things....

Be sure that the oil level is not too high. That can also cause the motor to bogg down.

Be sure you have new fresh fuel.....after draining the tank....no water.

Be sure that when you put it all back together, that you get the base gaskets on the correct way and all the way on. They can easily slip down in the back and then it blocks part of the intake and also allows air in.

The idle mixture screw could be any one of several turns out....depending on serial number of the engine.

2–1/8 turns (*1)2 turns (*2)1–3/4 turns (*3)2–1/8 turns (*1)1–1/4 turns (*4)

*1: BF20L, BF2A non-emission*2: BF20S engine serial number 1000001 ~ 1007046*3: BF20S engine serial number 1007047 ~ later*4: BF2AS frame serial number 2000001 ~ later

There are a few things to check.....

That must be the problem. There is no nozzle under the jet on mine. The jet was changed by a local mechanic a few weeks back and the outboard has never been the same since. He must have forgot to refit the nozzle. Problem is this part doesn't seem to be available anymore.

Thanks

engine number is BAES-1218044 which translates to BF2AM SA - BAES-1200001-1300000.

there seems to be 3 nozzles which are all

I suppose you have called the mechanic to see if maybe he found it since that time and stuck it away in the catch-all drawer?
