" water pump is not dischargin

" water pump is not discharging water, I suspect that some dirt got into the engine from the tub it was running in and is clogging it up somewhere. Going to remove gear cassing and clean up water intakes etc. Any pointers before I start? "

Yes motor runs hot and yes the alarm goes off. Is the Thermostat cover accessable without pulling bottom off?

Is the water pump in the lower unit?

Lower unit has to be removed and waterpump is mounted on top of it.
