hey has anyone ever installed valve guides in a 10hp Honda? are they pressed into the head or something? the valves now have a side to side movement when open and I assume they are leaking oil or is the side to side movement normal ?

Never done it but the book says drive out and drive in with tool 07942-9350000 and ream to size with tool 07984-20000000

Valve stem OD is:

Intake-5.468-5.480mm Standard with a service limit of 5.08mm minimum (0.2 in.)
(0.215-0.216 in.)

Exhaust-5.435-5.450 standard with service limit of 4.75mm minimum (0.187 in.)
(0.214-0.2145 in.)

Valve guide I.D.:

5.500-5.512mm standard with service limit of 5.54mm maximum (0.218 in.)
(0.2165-0.2170 in.)

Doing the math, new stem to guide clearances would appear to be a bit tight at around .002 in. for intake and .003 in. for exhaust. Not sure I would cut it that close, especially on exhaust.

But, it does seem that they allow for a bunch of slop at .018 in. intake and a whopping .031 in. exhaust. I consider both to be excessive and would expect some leakage.

thanks for the info. I assume you have a manual for this engine any way you could upload it and send me a copy? I think I may get the honda dealership to do the valve work as I have never removed or installed valves or guides other than I once scrapped a few aluminum heads and sold them for scrap metal and I remember the valve guides were hard to get out.
