Auto choke?

Just picked up a nice drift boat with a Yamaha F9.9LF 4-stroke outboard. It was serviced a few years ago (I have the invoice). took it out to the lake today to run the motor, but wouldn't start. Took the cowling off, noticed no choke knob, so stuck my thumb over the air intake, and got it going after a fashion. It stalled out eventually, so there could be several problems (fuel filter, fuel line from tank, etc). I'm a DIY kinda guy, but the choke mystifies me.

There's no external choke knob, and if it's an auto-choke model, it doesn't seem to be working very well.

Anyone out there willing to send a few pages from a manual for this model motor with pertinent info on tuning up/idle adjustment/choke?

thanks,

bob

Found my answer -

old fuel has clogged the idle intake. High-speed side seemed fine, but it wouldn't idle, so I couldn't shift into fwd/rev, and it would die. Quick carb cleanup, and I should be good to go.
