I have a petrol 3.0L Mercruiser AlphaOne in a Bayliner 175 that I purchased second hand and have owned for 1 year.
I recently noticed a large brown cloud appear in the water behind the boat when I started it after a month of no use. As it is used in sea water, I regularly flush the system with ear muffs for at least 5 mins after every use.

You can see in the second image that it looks like there is rust permeating from inside the main metal water pipe (or is it the exhaust?!) of the port side of the engine.
Even though it had it's yearly service 2 months ago, I will be going back to the mechanic but would like your opinion on it first. I may have it all wrong, I just don't want to ignore an issue and have a bigger problem down the track.
