Adjuster Screw for Timing Wedges (9.9/15hp ‘84 engine)

I don’t have the manual for this engine but really starting to think I should. In the meantime, trying to better understand how to adjust the little screw at the end of the black wedge that actuated the carb roller. How does one decide how much that screw should be pushed out? It doesn’t seem to really make a different for the lower engine speeds (as the screw is at the larger end). Does one simply adjust so that you get max throw from the roller assembly?

Screw # 20 is adjusted so thet the roller just touches the cam at timing mark and the butterfly just starts to open as the throttle is opened at that point .

Take care though the plastic the cam follower #15 is made of can become brittle with age. Adjust the screw only if necessary . Dont mess with it if you can avoid it

What do you mean by timing wedges ....... refer to the parts diagrams on this site

The screw at the end of the cam seldom needs to be touched. It only needs adjustment if the throttle butterfly does not open to 90 deg at full throttle. but adjust it at your own risk. If the cam breaks it is a job to replace it.

Thanks, it's part #37 in the diagram below:

I think what flyingscott is saying is what I'm after: you adjust this to make sure that the throttle movement is at its limit to permit wide-open-throttle in the carb...right?
