97 Mariner 150 efi magnum. Small black hose from gear box

This is a new to me engine. I have noticed a small black hose about 1/8" hanging from the gear box. It has a plastic barbed fitting fitting on the end opposite the gear box. It appears like it should meet up with another black hose at the barbed fitting but I don't see it anywhere. Could someone help me out?

It's for the speedometer if you have one, you hook it up to the hose that runs up to it.

You would be amazed how much water flows through that hose when it's not hooked up to a speedo when you're running. Years ago, I had no use for a speedometer on my boat with GPS, so I routed the hose to a live well with overflow and worked perfect for keeping clean new water in the well while running, kept live shrimp happy, I'm sure it would work for minnows in freshwater.
