"Hi,I was having trouble shift

"Hi,I was having trouble shifting. I removed the control lever and found outer core of the shift cable was not holding. There is a plastic "bracket" of sort that holds the cable (which has a couple of circular grooves on it). It is broken or worn so that it will not hold the outer cable. Does anyone have the part number of this item or any ideas how I can fix it? thanks"

"That is a fairly high stress point in the shift system. It would be better if those kinds of parts were metal. If it was my boat, I'd swap out the whole control for a better quality one. I have a MORSE control on my 40 year old boat."

Thanks for your comment and th

Thanks for your comment and that is exactly what I was up to. I am a tool maker with access to a machine shop and had intended to "copy" the original part in metal. However I need an original one to use as a template. I have "jury rigged" mine to operate and don't want to take the boat out of service to use it as a template.
