95 Mercury 200XRI telltale and thermostats

Purchased a new to me boat and it has a Mercury 200xri motor serial# G258196 and im not real familiar with the newer model year motor like this. Ive alway run the inline motors. So ive done a little research and have found out these motor have a thermostat. My question is how long should it normally take for water to come out of the telltale? I just purchased it today the guy i purchased it from said it was gone through at the shop in September of this year. I put it on the lake this afternoon and idle for a couple minutes and no water out the telltale. Then throttled it up and after a little bit it and im assuming thermostat opened up and had good water stream coming out of the telltale. And also had a good stream at idle after that. Beings that im used to the inlines with no thermostat should i be concerned with the delay on this motor or is it normal.
