Extra long shaft used on a sailboat I purchased. Replaced water pump and housing. Previous owner had ran through mud. Cleaned out lower unit cooling tubes. Water pump was fried. Removed thermostat. Checked thermostat on stove. Found a little grit and sand in thermostat opening. Tried to flush with water.

Started motor. Initially there was a short stream then only steam. Recommendations.
 
Verify whether you are still pumping. The telltale only proves system is pressurized, so it may not be pumping. Verify the key pin is in the impeller at the flat on the driveshaft.
 
Seems it's locked up now. I can not get it to turn over with the spark plugs out and using a rachet wrench on the camshaft. I think it is fried.
 
Drop the LU to see if that is what's locked. Take off the recoil and use a pipe wrench on the flywheel.
