89 70hp VRO water pump plate gasket

Hey Everyone!
I know the answer to this question is probably somewhere in the archive, but couldn’t find it so thought maybe someone might chime in and point me in the right direction. I’m installing a new water pump kit on my E70TLCEM, Evinrude OEM kit with everything. Noticed that the manual and diagram doesn’t show the gasket underneath the impeller plate, when I took mine apart it did have a gasket but wondered if it was installed by mistake. So gasket or no gasket thanks in advance for any help or advice!

432955 is the kit you need.-----It contains very , very important instructions for modifications to the cooling system.-----Gasket would go underneath the wear plate.
 
Thanks racer1 that’s the kit I bought, I moved the telltale to the top of the manifold per instructions and also changed the t’stat spring. Finished up on that and had moved down to the water pump to replace the housing, plate and impeller and noticed the diagram in the manual didn’t show the gasket.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal operation. FYI, yes I removed driveshaft grommet and water tube guide. I’m concerned about the water coming out of the driveshaft outlet in the housing. It may be normal....

Well thought I’d post my water pump build complete with the wear plate gasket.

After removing all the old water pump parts and cleaning the surface of the gearbox wear plate area I began by putting a thin coat of Johnson Evinrude gasket sealing compound on the wear plate gasket then I placed it on the gearbox pump area.

Next I placed the wear plate on top the gasket, and then put a dab of marine grease on the key area and placed the wedge key with the pointed edge facing clockwise per the manual.

Next up I grease up the impeller and installed it making sure it was right side up so the key would slide up into the recess and the I turned the driveshaft clockwise to lock the impeller on the driveshaft, then I used the OMC M (847) to glue the O-ring in its recess on the water pump housing. Got the grease back out and coated the inside of the housing.

I installed the housing down the driveshaft and worked the impeller into the housing turn the driveshaft clockwise its a little tricky but not a problem. Then installed the 4 bolts to attach the housing to the complete assembly tightening them to manual spec.

last couple of things were attaching the water tube extension and installing the driveshaft grommet.
