Im new to forum I have a 1988 merc 80 hp serial number ob37173? I cant read last number on tag, I have a manual that shows wiring diagrahm thats different from my motor. The manual shows 4 wires coming from staror 2 yellow and 1 red and 1 blue, book shows red and blues wires going to switch box. My motor has 2 yellow going to rectifier and a green and white and a white and green they boyh go to a small electric part behind the oil tank and out of that part comes a blue wire that hooks to the switch box where the book show the blue wire connection. nothing on red wire at switch box. the motor starts up and seems to run fine. Im sure its the right wiring diagrahm cause everything else is perfect match. Any explinations helpful Thanks

Stators can have multiple functions.

Generate voltage to charge a capacitor for the ignition system.

Generate voltage to charge a battery via a rectifier or rectifier/regulator.

Generate a voltage to tell the capacitor when to fire the spark plugs.

Does that stator need a rectifier or a different regulator that mounts on air box the yellow wires that go to rectifier look like they have got the motor is electric start with tilt trim is that 9 or 16 amp stator thanks
